I went to a gala this weekend, which was a very beautiful grown up affair with lots of New York City creatives and water served in wine glasses, you get it. I always feel a little guilty at these things because the food at these things is always Costco sample sized, and I know it’s meant for us to be elegant, but my parents didn’t immigrate to this country so I could eat just as little food as they did, so I spend most of my time trying to eat enough of the deconstructed summer rolls to make it a whole summer roll. I don’t end up networking or anything because in my head I’m like, counting the fractions of the summer roll that I’ve eaten and how many more times I need to track down the server in order to complete the summer roll.
Here’s what I’ve been thinking about:
Vanessa Hudgens is not at Coachella this weekend, which goes yet again into our slush pile of How We Can Tell We’re In A Recession. Even more sinister? Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello were spotted kissing at Coachella, which is a threat if I’ve ever seen one.
New York City now has a rat czar, and we are all very excited to see how this plays out (not for rats, but for content). “You’ll be seeing a lot more of me, and a lot less of the rats,” she said. I would let her choke me out, frankly.
Mike Pompeo wants us to know he is not running for president. Did you get that? Did you know he is not running for president? Oh my god, you guys, stop asking! He is not running for president! I know you wanted to know, but — oh my god, stop! You guys!
Taehyun Kim, a member of K-pop group TXT, caused scandal this week after videos of him seemingly dancing with two girls at a club were leaked. Fans were split: some were relieved to know that at least he has rizz, while others were outraged that he seemed to be at the lamest club of all time.
Nice things to consider:
Threaded Twitter K-pop fan fiction (with their own dummy accounts).
Since we last spoke, I spoke with the Malala Fund’s favorite Snoopy fancam editor, who is currently grounded. I wrote about which politicians have supported the “Tennessee Three.” I covered a fatal shooting in New Mexico by police after they went to the wrong address. I unpacked the backlash towards Beef’s David Choe for making light of sexual assault.
