Welcome back to the weekly link share! I hope you missed me, because I missed you! Say you missed me!
I took a little mental health hiatus after I had a recent life change to being unemployed, a hiatus that took place in Europe. I went to Croatia and it did not change my life! It was very pretty, but I didn’t watch Game of Thrones, so I didn’t know what the references to the dragons or whatever were. I also don’t think it’s the hidden gem that travel influencers swear on their life it is; Dubrovnik and Split feel very much rebuilt for Instagram tourism. But I have nothing to prove that. Just vibes.
Here’s what I’ve been thinking about:
My For You Page has become completely dominated by content about hobby horsing (equestrian riding if the horse was actually just a broom handle) and I have never been happier to be on TikTok. I love any activity that requires a level of delusion to participate, like pretending a plushie horse head on a stick is a real horse.
The latest teaser trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty dropped this week, so I watched it three times and sobbed at like, nine in the morning.
It’s finally private chef in the Hamptons content season, which is my Met Gala, my Bama Rush, my Cannes Film Festival. I cannot wait to watch the girls get up to their upstate shenanigans and make their stunning little meals. That’s what they made this season for.
I refuse to talk about Livvy and Baby Gronk. Read Kelsey Weekman’s rundown on it.
My big thing during my time off has been taking long walks, during which I listen to a frankly concerning amount of One Direction. I know what you’re thinking, I’m going through their whole discography during these walks. No. I predominantly only listen to their recently leaked song or one single song on repeat (it’s “Fool’s Gold,” who am I kidding). I spend most of my time during these two-hour walks fearing that one day someone will be like “Aha! This was all AI! You’ve been got!” and it’s not actually a leaked One Direction song, because then I will cry, and no one wants to see that happen. I do not think about anything else. So that’s where I’m at.
Nice things to consider:
My latest favorite word game, The Guardian’s Wordiply.
Kids finding their school shooter’s Instagram and roasting him in the comments.
Since we last spoke, I wrote a short story about boba liberalism and an essay on Simu Liu. I also did some reporting for Teen Vogue on the Harry Styles fanfic turned movie series After.
